The end of Champ Car in Portland doesn’t mean the end of great professional racing in the Northwest. It means more racing and less ego. Sure, Champ Car went away just before the 25th Anniversary party, but preferring a celebration over a wake, Portland International Raceway (PIR) and Mazda North America decided three days of racing wasn’t enough.
So this year the Mazda Grand Prix of Portland will showcase nearly everything about racing. We started by building the weekend around some of the fines racing in open wheel formula cars with a Star Mazda presented by Goodyear double-header, plus the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup.
And then we thought you might get thirsty, so we added a trackside extension of the Oregon Brewers Festival! We get the chance to debut the Volkswagon Jetta TDI Cup series in the Northwest, the figured we would add bicycles, drag racing and motocross. But why stop there? So we added a huge cruise-in, drifting and a time attack. Come and join us for this uniquely Portland event.
